Short version: If you’re on track to renew in New York, use the calculator below. Most educators who are practicing in a NY public school or BOCES and hold a Professional classroom teaching/educational leadership certificate or a Level III Teaching Assistant certificate need 100 CTLE clock hours every five years. Of those hours, 15% must focus on ELL language acquisition for most educators; if you’re ESOL-certified or hold a Bilingual Extension, 50% of your hours must be ELL-focused. Don’t upload proof to NYSED—keep your records and attest in TEACH; NYSED may audit you. Then grab 10 free CTLE hours to close any gap fast.

Take CTLE only from NYSED-approved sponsors—districts/BOCES, NYS IHEs, approved organizations, etc. PD not designated as CTLE by an approved sponsor does not count toward the 100-hour requirement..
Tip: Align hours to your actual assignment (e.g., instructional leadership for leaders, assessment/intervention for teachers) and track titles, dates, sponsor ID, and hours as you go. NYSED can audit sponsors and certificate holders; hours are attested in TEACH rather than uploaded.
Behind on hours—or short on ELL-focused time? We offer 10 free CTLE hours from an approved sponsor—perfect to close the gap your calculator shows
